Beware: New AH/Trade Channel Scam Afoot

Znodis over at the Mystic Hunter blog posted info on a new scam that may be showing up on your server any minute now.

Essentially, the scammer puts up an epic in the AH, say a Krol Blade, for 200g bid/250g buyout. Then he logs in an alt and adverstises "WTB Krol Blade 300g pst." Some sucker sees a quick 50g, buys the Krol for 250, and offers it to the scammer…who of course logged out as soon as he saw the Krol sell.

Theoretically, our sucker could put the Krol back up for 250…but I’m pretty sure it’s not selling for that price on my server.

HEY!…Be careful out there!

Don’t wanna sound rude but, it’s the oldest trick in the book

Well, it’s far from the oldest, since the first two games I played didn’t have anything approaching the AH. ;)

And…I’ve never seen it tried on my server, and I’m on the Trade channel a lot. But…forewarned is forearmed, no?

It may be the oldest trick in the book, but some of us are the newest puppies on the block, so I appreciate the notice.

Its reasons like this that I tend to avoid speculating on the AH. I stick to dual gathering as my primary means for generating gold. If my items sell for too low, all I did is waste some time farming, which is tons of fun for me anyways.
