Daily quests: Easy cash, some faction, nice parting gifts. What’s not to like?
Ever since a friend gave me a Christmas present of the rest of the gold I needed for Osprey’s Swift Blue Gryphon, I’ve been spending a LOT of time on Netherwing Ledge, gaining (what else?) Netherwing faction. Yes, I want a dragon mount, but this is also a great way to earn a decent amount of extra cash so Talonis may soon have a Swift Gryphon.
The Netherwing dailies are all solo quests, but it never hurts to have company. As a Holy Priest, some of the quests are definitely easier than others. For me, the worst one is The Not-So-Friendly Skies, in which you must intercept the Dragonmaw Transporters (moderate difficulty, as they don’t spawn as often as I’d like), kill them (keep PW:S and Renew up!–they hit hard), and harvest Netherwing Relics (very difficult: <10% drop rate, and you need 10–do the math). My favorite (isn’t it everyone’s?) is the Booterang. A close second is A Slow Death, which is a lot of fun after you collect a dozen Fel Glands (again, a lot lower than 100% drop rate)—so much fun, a guildmate recites the peons’ lines as she giggles her way through the quest.
I started doing the quests on December 27. When I logged off last night (Dec. 30), I was already 15% towards Revered. I spent a great deal of time over the weekend doing the quests; again, as a healy priesty, it can be slow going. I finally remembered that I, too, can use Crunchy Serpent to up my spell damage—shortly before I logged off last night. /sigh
However, there weren’t many folks on, and they were generally doing their own thing anyway, so it was a nice way to kill a lot of time (and watch football) over the weekend. Last night, though, I hooked up with a guildie for a couple of the quests deeper in the mines: Much easier, especially when fighting three or more mobs at a time. Priests may deal more damage these days, but it’s relative, and relatively slow. I’m certainly getting on good terms with my Shadowfiend though!
So in addition to the faction I’m gaining (and the concomitant progress towards my dragon mount), Talonis is the beneficiary of this productive income stream. (Falken’s also been doing well selling gems, and the odd bundle of herbs Osprey sends him.) So from about 300g on Christmas Day, Tal broke the 2K mark last night.
So that brings me to my goals for January: Dragon Mount for Osprey; Swift Green Gryphon for Talonis. Maybe not overly ambitious, but if I can hit those targets, who knows what crazy scheme I may hatch yet?

Nice goals …
Maybe one day I’ll be able to buy my epic land mount …
/sigh
“Work is da POOP!”
“It put mutton in the stomach”
Somedays I’s gonna retire and get me some peoons to work me estate, just fer they funnies. And so’s I gets to booterang’em when they gets unruly.
You know, Ratsy, I totally forgot to describe the sensation of being an Orc while on the Ledge. Let’s just say it was…different.
Sellia, if you’re 70, it shouldn’t take any time at all! Just grind all the quests you can find in Blade’s Edge, Netherstorm, and Shadowmoon. Even just doing those you can solo will get you a grand in no time!
Get any eggs? Those are great for speeding up the rep grind! You can get them herbing or mining, as random drops, or just lying around! One session I got three while doing all the quests.
And I’m with you on the Not So Friendly Skies quest. As a holy paladin, 20 yards is my longest reaching spell that I can pull something with. I didn’t mind the drop rate, really. It just sucked that it took me almost five minutes to grab one of the damn things.
Heh…on Saturday, I turned in 5 eggs; yesterday, I was able to do 3. So yep, love me some eggs! On the Friendly Skies, I figured out my problem: Unlike the Crystals and Pollen/Ore/Hides quests, you DO have to accept the quest before the Relics will drop. Doh!
And I made a bet with myself that you would be going on about just how much fun a fast flying mount is.
I lost.
good post.

*grin* Well, those who have one already know and would be bored; those who don’t probably get tired of people saying how great it is! (Not that I ever did, of course…I was just jealous!)
I still do the netherwing grind with all my characters, i’m up to 4 chars with them now. I’ve noticed that nowadays you don’t see those mounts as much as you used to, which is pretty cool. My grinding method mostly consists of flying around the fortress looking for eggs, then just grinding and questing in the mines the whole time.
